The Way Of Kings

Brandon Sanderson’s The Way Of Kings is perhaps my favorite book from Sanderson yet. It was intriguing from beginning to end and left me wanting more. The Way Of Kings takes place in a world known as Roshar. Where powerful storms sweep across the last regularly and everyone is after ancient artifacts that cut the very soul of whom it wounds, and another that makes any man into a near indestructible warrior. These Shardblades and shardplates, relics from the ancient order called the Knights Radiant, are what kingdoms are traded for.

This story follows Dalinar Kholin; a leader of one of ten different armies that make up the kingdom, as he becomes interested in a text that his deceased brother (who was the king) began reading, called The Way of Kings; Kaladin, who chose to become a soldier to protect his brother rather than stay with his medical apprenticeship and now finds himself a slave; and finally Shallan, whom seeks to become the ward of renowned scholar Jasnah Kholin for shady reasons. This is a must read that I highly recommend.

Blast from the past!

I’ve been working on an older story that was never finished. March of the Creeps. I had some writer’s block the other day so it’s taking longer than expected, but I’m working through it. Keep your eyes peeled for these stories soon.

I’m baaacckkkk!!!

The blog has been quiet for about a week or so. My apologies Emu fans (all 0 of you). I was at Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI to see Rise Against. Then I was working, and you know how things go. Now that I’m back and have access to internet, everything will now continue as normal again… which is to say, slowly. I may or may not have a surprise for you guys/gals tomorrow. *cough*NewStoryPerhaps*cough*.
Until then, I have an additional book to add to my bookshelf!
Ciao!!

Sidekick 2.0

I’ve started rewriting Sidekick because I couldn’t get the character depth I wanted… So this time around I am changing the personality of the main character and giving him a name – Adrian Schueller. It will be about his transformation from boring insurance broker to being part of a “super villain” team up. My first character from Super Villain has revenge as his motivation, but Adrian’s motif will be in a little more towards the morally grey area. He’s going to be a guy, who under different circumstances would not be in his situation… vague I know, but I can’t go spoiling my own story now.

In addition, I’m staying true to my original idea for journal entries as a story telling device and so Sidekick will be told through a series of journal entries written by Adrian. In the next few days, I may or may not have access to internet though, so this site might be dead until next week, unless I can sneak in some time somewhere with internet. Brace yourself, Sidekick is in transit. ETA: soonish.

Blarg!

Death Whispers

This series was interesting. I enjoyed it, but it felt like it was missing something. Tamara Rose Blodgett’s Death series is definitely worth reading, but if you don’t enjoy dark dystopian stories then this may not be your cup of tea. Death Whispers is a story about a boy, Caleb Hart, who can raise the dead. In a world where super powers are uncommon at best, he has the rare ability called “affinity for the dead.” He must protect the girl he loves and keep his affinity for the dead ability secret from the government, lest they kidnap him and use his abilities for their own twisted means. And all while dealing with high school and all of it’s own special problems. This book is a solid read. Image

Emu’s Bookshelf now has a new page!

I’ve put a kind of ‘table of contents’ for my bookshelf feature, as well as including a link to their respective amazon pages in case I’ve convinced you to check out the book. You can find it by clicking the red button up top or by clicking here. I have more stuff that will be added tomorrow!

Tah-tah for now! (I’m running out of closing remarks)

Quote

“Oh, come on. Y…

“Oh, come on. You have to admit that you’re unusual, Vin. You’re like some strange mixture of a noblewoman, a street urchin, and a cat. Plus, you’ve managed — in our short three years together — to kill not only my god, but my father, my brother, and my fiancee. That’s kind of like a homicidal hat trick. It’s a strange foundation for a relationship, wouldn’t you say?”

This quote was from Elend to Vin in The Hero Of Ages (Mistborn Book III). This sentence cracked me up. Vin did indeed kill all those people, but the way it happened hid this observation until you stop to think about it. I love how it gets thrown out in the open like that.
